On March 3rd Chicago's mushers, artists, philanthropists, action heroes, pub-crawlers, professional badasses, cartoon characters, activists, ninjas, saboteurs, old people, robots and enthusiastic leisurists will assemble yet again to perpetrate what is *probably* the world’s largest mobile food drive.

Chiditarod (ʃai*dit'*ə*rɒd): n.) the annual Chicago-based phenomenon that combines elements of the Alaskan Iditarod with Chicago's finest brand of debaucherous social activism. One part food drive, one part pub-crawl, one part costumed race, all parts radtacular.

1) RACE
Assemble your team of five - answer the call to glory. To fend off procrastination and make race-day logistics actually doable, there will be NO walk up registrations allowed; in fact we are closing registration (i.e. no new teams or name changes for registered teams) two weeks ahead of the race. As with every year, there is a tiered registration plan - register early!
- $45/team, January 15th - 28th
- $55/team, January 29th - February 11th
- $65/team, February 12th - 18th
- REGISTRATION CLOSES February 18th.
- Registration is limited to first 150 teams registered and fully paid, all others will be put on a wait list. No exceptions.

2) VOLUNTEER
Volunteer with the most capable event producers in the known universe. Chiditarod is for the people, by the people. Volunteers are why this event can happen. We need over 125 solid volunteers to make Chiditarod a reality. Please join us. It's fun, especially if you can remember it. Promise. Please plan to attend our volunteer orientation on 2/29/12 at 7:00pm... there will be drink specials and good company - it’s a fun Wednesday evening ;)

3) DESIGN CONTEST
The 2012 design contest is in full swing until January 23rd. We WANT your entries! Don’t be lame, flex those graphic design skills and step on up to get the fame you know you deserve! Submit designs for patches, t-shirts, or flyers - Winners get Chiditaschwag and race for FREE!!! Don’t keep all the glory for yourself - send this contest to your artsy friends - even if they're not racing or volunteering.

4) PRE-ORDER PATCHES -- NEW!
You know you want 'em (even if you don’t know the design just yet!) Pre-orders of patches (any patches you pre-order will be included in your racer packs when you go through registration) are available up until Tuesday, February 7th.

5) FUND-RAISE
We still lay claim to being "Probably the World's Largest Mobile Food Drive." Our philanthropic efforts address urban food and hunger challenges by partnering with organizations that provide immediate hunger relief (food pantries, etc), and sustainable food empowerment through urban farming and education (new for 2012!).
- Food Donations - The Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation has CLOSED ITS DOORS, thus we will not be raising funds nor food for them in 2012. We’re excited to announce our 2012 food beneficiary is the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
- Financial Donations - In the past, both food and funding have gone to the same organization. NEW FOR 2012 - We’re finalizing a partnership with an organization focused on solving hunger problems and food deserts within Chicago through education and urban farming. We plan on setting up our online fundraising pages to benefit this 501(c)3 organization. This is HUGE and we’re super stoked.

6) STAY CONNECTED
- First and foremost, join the announcement group. It only sends official information, and very rarely. No chat, no spam, nothing but the raw facts. If you don't hear it here, it might as well not exist (and could be sabotage propaganda... beware!).

7) CHITWITTEROD PRIZE
This is a repeat-repeat performance on a favorite prize from last year... after all, taunting the competition via social media is kinda fun. If you have a Twitter account (chances are someone on your team does), then we'll be watching the tweet feeds for the most outrageous mentions for Chiditapimping, leading up to race day. The team or volunteer with the most non-bullshit Chitweets will get their hands on some glorious schwag prizes and plenty of hot action. You MUST use the tag @chiditarod to be heard.
CHIDITAROD'S MONUMENTAL YEAR VII
Come out and play with us, AGAIN. Take over Chicago's streets. Push a shopping cart while wearing a rainbow tutu. Sabotage the oompa loompas. Break the 10 ton food drive ceiling. Make history, again. Most importantly - be your beautiful creative selves while providing for the hungry. Get Epic, Be a Hero. Everyone gets laid (and/or passes out early smugly knowing they've provided a banquet pour un bon homme).
