Support the cause by bringing food!
Since the Chiditarod is also a food drive, putting food in a team's cart will increase their chances of winning the prize for most food collected. Why not bring some high-protein, non-perishable food for the racers? The 2009 food collection goal is 2.5 metric tons of food. We are not joking. In 2007 the Chiditarod collected 2,353 pounds of food, so get ready!
Where should I watch the race?
Since the location of the checkpoints remains a surprise up until the day of the race, we can't really tell you exactly where to watch. We will say this, however. The race might be contained by:
Starting Line
A great place to watch the race is near the starting line. The race will begin at the corner of Wollcot and Hubbard (map) at 12:30 pm. Feel free to come on by to congratulate all the participants on their lack of taste as they cross the starting line. Cheer on your favorite dogs and mushers as they make their way towards the first checkpoint. Be there by 12:30 pm or you'll miss the starting horn...
Finish Line
The finish line has NOT been announced...yet. Stay tuned. Get there by around 2:00 pm if you want to catch the first teams as they cross the finish line in all of their glory, pain, and exhaustion.
Play Along!
If you are working with a team to provide food, please consult with your team in advance as to where you plan on meeting them.
